Lifelong Learning & CME

The APA provides educational programs and services to assist APA member and non-member psychiatrists at all levels of their profession. The APA also provides its members with up-to-date information on the latest scientific and clinical developments in psychiatry. From medical school, residency and beyond, these services are designed to advance clinical and practice management skills and promote quality patient care. Many online CME activities are free for APA members.

Featured CME Activity

To facilitate continued clinical competence, the ABMS and all its specialty boards including ABPN are implementing Maintenance of Certification. In 2013 the ABPN will require a review of one’s own practice, a Performance in Practice (PIP) clinical module. Two sample performance-in-practice tools are presented that are based on recommendations of the APA’s Practice Guideline. APA Online CME Center
The APA provides many opportunities for CME and lifelong learning to our members. 

Annual Meeting Online CME
The APA Annual Meeting Online library highlights the “best of” the 2005 - 2008 Annual Meeting.  Cutting edge, science-based care for patients and over 100 hours of CME.  

Buprenorphine Training
APA provides physician training in the use of buprenorphine for office-based treatment of opiate dependent patients. 

CME Calendar
A list of educational activities compiled from a variety of sources (advertisements, brochures, etc.) as a service to our members.  

FOCUS
FOCUS: The Journal of Lifelong Learning in Psychiatry is the best system for recertification, self-assessment, and lifelong learning in psychiatry.  

Practice Guideline CME
Practice Guidelines are patient care strategies developed to assist physicians in clinical decision making. CME credit for APA Practice Guideline courses is free to members.  

Support for Maintenance of Certification
APA provides resources for initial and maintenance of certification in psychiatry.   

Certification in Psychiatric Administration & Management
APA Certification in Psychiatric Administration & Management is designed to establish the candidate’s knowledge in administrative psychiatry as it applies to mental health administration.
