Committee on Quality Indicators
Charge (1999)
- Formulates principles as a base for quality indicators
- Develops evidence-based quality indicators
- Promotes support for and use of indicators
- Remains informed of the quality indicator efforts of other organizations
- Maintains liaison with appropriate components and staff of the APA (e.g., Committee on Health Services Research, Councils on Research, Economic Affairs, Children, etc)
- Maintains on-going liaison with representatives of allied organizations (e.g., National Association of Psychiatric Health Systems, American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors, and others as necessary and appropriate)
- Reviews and comments on proposed quality indicators of other groups
- Highlights trends and policy areas requiring further discussion by other components of the association and/or its governing bodies

Current Activities
- The committee meets monthly via conference call and reviews and responds to a variety of reports from national performance measure initiatives. Comments from the committee are often incorporated into revisions. Recently reviewed materials were from the NQF, AQA, and CMS. (See National Organizations & Initiatives Page for more information on these organizations)
- The committee serves in a consulting role for the substance use disorder measure development effort by the PCPI. (See National Organizations & Initiatives Page for more information on the PCPI)
- The committee is developing performance measures in the area of schizophrenia. Current topics focus on family intervention and the metabolic effects of atypical antipsychotic medications.
